Tata Chemicals manufactures fertilisers at two of its plants, the facility in Babrala, Uttar Pradesh, and at Haldia, West Bengal. The company is among India's leading producers of urea, ammonia and phosphatic fertilisers.
Urea and ammonia comes from the Babrala plant, which has the capacity to produce, per annum, 864,000 tonnes of urea and 493,000 tonnes of ammonia. The phosphatic fertilisers made by Tata Chemicals, such as di-ammonium phosphate, NPK complexes and single super phosphate, at its Haldia plant are sold under the brand name Paras and they lead the market in the states of West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.
The company also helps small farmers enhance the yield from their land by providing end-to-end solutions ? harnessing sophisticated modern technology such as satellite mapping and geographical information systems ? through its network of Tata Kisan Sansar (Tata farmer centres) outlets in the northern Indian states of Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Uttaranchal. These outlets are one-stop resource centres that stock seeds, pesticides and fertilisers; lease farm equipment and implements to farmers who cannot afford to buy expensive modern machinery; provide agronomy services like soil testing and mapping and fertiliser testing; and extend credit finance, arrange crop insurance and even provide buyback facilities.
